Quick answer
NODE is built so sites can keep trading reliably, use clear management tools, and avoid the usual EPOS complexity that makes other systems hard to live with.
Internet & Network
Does NODE need an internet connection to work day to day?
Yes, but the main NODE Software does not need a perfectly stable internet connection to keep trading. As long as your terminals can still communicate on the local network, sales can continue normally.
Internet access is mainly used for periodic licence checks and two-way syncing with the NODEView server. Some connected modules, such as NODE Virtual and other online plugins, do require a stable internet connection to work properly.
What happens if the internet goes down during service?
The main NODE Software includes standalone functionality, so you can continue trading during an internet outage. In most cases, disruption is minimal unless you are actively using online ordering or other internet-dependent modules.
What happens if the local network inside the building goes down?
The main NODE Software includes standalone functionality, so terminals can continue trading if they lose connection. Some shared features may be limited until the network connection is restored, but day-to-day selling can continue.
Do tills need to be wired, or can they run on Wi‑Fi?
A wired connection is always recommended where possible, but a stable Wi‑Fi connection can also work well.
Is Wi‑Fi good enough for handhelds, KVS, and other connected parts of NODE?
Yes, a good Wi‑Fi connection is suitable for these. NODE Virtual does not have to be on the same local network as the tills. As long as it has reliable internet access, including over 4G, it can work correctly.
What sort of internet setup do you recommend for a NODE site?
We recommend a stable broadband connection and a well-configured local network. Around 50 Mbps download and upload is a strong setup for most sites.
What minimum internet speed would you recommend?
As a minimum, around 10 Mbps download and upload is usually acceptable.
Can NODE work across multiple rooms, bars, or buildings on the same site?
Yes, provided the local network infrastructure is set up properly.
Do card machines need to be on the same network as NODE?
No. Teya card machines can work over 4G and still integrate correctly.
Are there any firewall, port, or network rules customers should know about?
In normal setups, there are no unusual network rules customers need to worry about.
Hardware & Devices
What hardware do customers need to run NODE?
For the main NODE Software, you need a Windows EPOS terminal with at least a dual-core processor and 2 GB of RAM. Larger product databases may benefit from more memory.
Can customers use their existing tills, printers, or tablets?
Yes, in many cases they can. For tills, Windows 10 or later is recommended. NODE Software can run on Windows 7, but communication with the NODEView server is not supported due to security concerns.
What printers work best with NODE?
Bixolon or Epson 76 mm dot matrix printers work well, and most generic 80 mm thermal printers are also suitable. Correct printer drivers are important.
Can NODE use both kitchen screens and printed kitchen checks at the same time?
Yes, it can.
What Android devices are best for NODE Virtual, NODE Go, and Staff Hub?
Any Android device running Android 7 or later can be suitable. NODE Virtual is especially well suited to devices such as the Sunmi V2s and V2 Pro, but it is not limited to those.
Is there a recommended spec for Windows tills or back-office PCs?
The minimum is a dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and at least 10 GB of storage for archives. Higher specs are recommended for larger setups.
Can one site run multiple tills, handhelds, kitchen screens, and driver devices together?
Yes. NODE is designed so these parts work together as one joined-up system.
Does NODE support barcode scanners, cash drawers, and receipt printers?
Yes.
Reliability & Day-To-Day Use
What happens if a till loses connection during service?
The terminal can move into standalone mode so you can keep trading. Some features, such as tables and other shared functions, may be limited until the connection is restored.
Is NODE designed to keep trading when things go wrong?
Yes. If a terminal loses connection to the master terminal, it can move into standalone mode automatically so service can continue.
What happens after a power cut?
In most cases, NODE will pick up where it left off. If any files are damaged by the interruption, the software is designed to repair them automatically where possible.
How hard is NODE to break by mistake?
NODE is designed to be difficult to disrupt by accident, and most problems that do happen are straightforward to fix.
Is NODE suitable for busy pubs, bars, restaurants, takeaways, and hotels?
Yes. NODE is built for real hospitality environments, including busy and mixed-service sites.
How easy is it for new staff to learn?
NODE is designed to be easy to learn, and we can also provide training in person or remotely.
Can permissions be used to stop staff accessing the wrong tools?
Yes. Permissions can be used to control who can access different areas and functions.
How are changes synced across the site?
When changes are made, the system flags that update so other terminals know to sync and pull the latest data.
Ordering, Kitchen & Delivery
What can NODE KVS do besides showing orders?
NODE KVS does much more than show tickets on a screen. It gives kitchens clear control over live tickets, supports printed checks where needed, and helps kitchens run in a more organised way during service.
Can printed kitchen checks still be used alongside KVS?
Yes. NODE KVS can work with printed checks as well, which is useful for sites that still need a mixed screen-and-print workflow.
How do the hygiene compliance checklists work?
Timed hygiene and kitchen tasks can appear on the KVS like a normal ticket. That means chefs are reminded to complete important tasks at the right times of day without having to rely on separate paper reminders.
Does NODE keep a record of completed hygiene tasks?
Yes. Completed checklist activity is logged, and hygiene log reports can be generated later if needed.
How does NODE Go help takeaway drivers?
NODE Go gives drivers navigation and helps sites track how much cash each driver should bring back, making delivery control much clearer.
How do takeaway, kiosk, table ordering, KVS, and drivers all work together?
These parts are designed to work as one joined-up flow. Orders can come in through takeaway, kiosk or table ordering, be handled clearly in the kitchen, and then move out to drivers with better visibility and cash tracking where needed.
Back Office & Management
What can managers do in NODEView?
Managers can do as much or as little as their permissions allow. Owners can control manager accounts and decide who can access which tools.
Can managers use NODEView from home or away from site?
Yes. NODEView is web-based, so it can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection.
Is NODEView only for reports, or can it control products, menus, stock, and staff too?
NODEView is much more than reports. It can be used to manage products, menus, stock, operators, settings, and more.
Can different managers have different access levels?
Yes. Permissions are role-based and can also be adjusted for individual users.
Is there a demo customers can try before buying?
Yes. Click the NODEView button in the site header, then click TRY DEMO on the login screen.
Can customers edit screens, menus, operators, and products themselves?
Yes. Customers have full control from day one, and we can also help with changes as part of support.
Can NODEView be used on mobile as well as desktop?
Yes. It is designed to work on both.
What is the difference between NODEView on the web and the Android app coming soon?
NODEView is already available on the web today. The Android app coming soon will provide a more polished native Android experience with quicker access from the device.
